Coloured Pencil Review and Green Heart Sketch.

Hello folks. It’s been a while since I did my last art tool review, so here is another one for ya. Hopefully this review will be useful to other artists, parents or beginners in the coloured pencil media.

Green Heart in coloured pencil.
Green Heart in coloured pencil.

This piece took a little longer than I had hoped but it was a great chance to play around with all my pencils. I used all of my green pencils in this one piece alone. (I haven’t got any new ones recently.) Doing this heart piece was a fab way of falling back in love with some and re-learning why I hated others. So lets get into the 3 brands that I used for this piece.

The Spectrum Sings Whsmith pencils

These are by far the oldest set of pencils that I own. Loved so much that I was given my sister’s set cause she no longer used them. They come in a pack of 48 and are avaible from Whsmith stores and their website at £9.99. A great little bargin and really good quality too. Building colour up with these is easy as is blending them together. I’ve had these since I was a highschooler and a set that I do go back to all the time. They give rich, bold colours when needed and are durable.

The Sudee Stile Pencils

Hmmm. The newest pencils I own and probally the only pencils I have some jip with. (Jip means issues just incase folk where confused!) I got the 120 set from amazon. But they no longer sell that set and now do either a 150 set at £46.99 or a 72 piece set at £19.99. Now that I have price out the way lets talk about them more in depth. Some of these colours are stunning. The blue green is gorgeous as is some of the reds, blues, and other shades. My main complaint about these pencils is that they don’t seem to have mixed all the colour in some of the pencils completely. I find it happens more in the lighter shades and I’ll get a huge line of a darker shade bleeding through. Which is annoying. Very annoying. But they do blend well together and work well with my other pencils. Plus the set has some colours that I don’t actually have in my others so that is a plus side.

The Staedtler Ergo Soft Pencils

I love these pencils. I’m gutted that I don’t have a bigger set of these beauties. I currently own the 24 set which I got from Whsmith at £15. (I think, I got these a few years ago and try not to use them for simple pieces.) If you know of a larger set please let me know!!! These are exactly what they say they are…..soft. I love using these for softer tones or when I need a gentler touch of colour. They are in a triangle shape which I find to be comfortable to handle but awkward to sharpen. Durable and the best quality of pencil that I own. They really are amazing.

I hope you enjoyed this post beauts.

Until next time my lovelies.

Sketchbook Tour.

Hello everyone. This little post is gonna be a tour of some of my most recent drawings and doodles. Hope you enjoy.

Red mushrooms.
These little mushrooms have been done with a pencil outline and filled in with my Touch marker pens. A little autumn inspo for inktober. (Which I’m failing at, but hay I’m working again!!) These little mushrooms are just too cute and I needed the push to get me back in my sketchbook.

The moon.
This little moon piece turned out really well. All drawn in black pen (which I rarely do!!) And I really enjoyed the process. It was fun and something that I need to do more of. One of my favourite pieces.

Piggies.

These where a prompt for my personal challenge. Pigs. Very awkward to draw but the one at the bottom is the best. Lol. These are drawn in one of my smaller sketchbooks that sometimes comes out with me. Drawing in pen isn’t easy but again something that I aim to be more confident in.

Yellow mushrooms.

Again with the mushrooms. Glad I found some inspiration though. I used a reference for these and the red ones from google. Used a pencil outline and tried the Touch markers again. You can see the bleeding from the ink. But despite that I do love this one. Its not something I usually draw, but simple and adorable. Yip, just called a mushroom adorable.

Eggs. Dragon? Not sure.
Done these in my good old friend, coloured pencil. The blue one was more of a challenge for the shading and range of tones. But did a good job over all. These two are more than likely going to be re-drawned at a later stage.

What do you guys think? Are you involved with inktober?

Until next time my lovelies.

A Rose and Some Gemstones (Drawing)

Hello my lovelies, how are you all doing? It’s been a nice, slow week for me and I’ve loved it. Got lots done too. Even been super productive with loads of crazy design ideas. And I wanted to share with you all some of the things I’ve been working on.

Blue and purple simplified gemstone
I’ve always liked gemstones but can never draw them well so I thought I could maybe simplify them down and still make them look nice. These purple and blue one is a fav of mine, (done in pencil) which I plan doing a canvas version of. Not sure which medium I’ll use though. But I do love it and the black pen outlines helps it too pop.

Red and pink simplified gemstone in pencil
Yellow simplified gemstone piece
I’ve enjoyed messing around with scale and shape each time I do one of these simplified gemstone pieces. This yellow one is my second largest piece that I’ve done. It was difficult trying to get several yellows that didn’t match in shade each time.

Green and Brown simplified gemstone piece in pencil

While drawing this one it gave me an idea for something else that I wanted to draw for ages. I really like how the colours work so well together and may go for a more ‘earthy’ colour palette on my next gemstone piece.

I’ll be very honest now, I’m not the best artist in the world and there are some things that I just struggle too draw. (Damn high school teachers and saying things have to be perfect!!!!)

A simple multi colour rose in pencil
This simple multi colour rose was alot of fun. It was a challenge to make it look like a rose just without the softness of one. The idea for this came from my green and brown gemstone piece that I had done. I have loads of plans for this design and its future. With different colour palettes, mediums and uses.

What have you been creating or drawing lately??

Until next time lovelies.
