Tea, Chainmail bracelets and a catch up.

Hello my lovelies. Long time no blog post. I could give you all the excuses under the sun but I know thats not fair on you. I fell outta love with my blog. Simple as that. But I want to re-connect with this part of my creative life so here goes nothing. Welcome to a little catch up on whats happening.

Tea and my new project

This pretty much sums up what I’ve been up to. Appart from working in my main night job, the last few days have been dedicated to working on my shop. And the new project I’m working on. I’ve been making loads of bookmarks to order and other things like beaded bracelets.

We are currently in limbo at the moment. We’re meant to be moving back to scotland but our work is taking their sweet time in letting us know of a moving date. I’m getting to the point where I just want to tell them to shove it where the sun don’t shine. Its very annoying but this has inspired me to get more creative and get more done for the shop.

Some of my chainmail bracelets.
My latest chainmail bracelet

These are my newest projects. The chainmail bracelets are an instant favourite of mine. I’ve made them using the byzantine link formation which is a lovely, classic look. They have helped me stay calm and a great little destresser. I got these links from Panda Hall beads. I actually get a huge amount of stuff from them. Theyre amazing! 😍 Although they do take ages to make. I love making them. Don’t worry, these will defo be going up on tbe shop sometime this week.

I have got loads of plans for the shop but at the moment they can’t happen till we move. Fingers crossed it is sometime this month.

Until next time my lovelies. Xx

Coloured Pencil Review and Green Heart Sketch.

Hello folks. It’s been a while since I did my last art tool review, so here is another one for ya. Hopefully this review will be useful to other artists, parents or beginners in the coloured pencil media.

Green Heart in coloured pencil.
Green Heart in coloured pencil.

This piece took a little longer than I had hoped but it was a great chance to play around with all my pencils. I used all of my green pencils in this one piece alone. (I haven’t got any new ones recently.) Doing this heart piece was a fab way of falling back in love with some and re-learning why I hated others. So lets get into the 3 brands that I used for this piece.

The Spectrum Sings Whsmith pencils

These are by far the oldest set of pencils that I own. Loved so much that I was given my sister’s set cause she no longer used them. They come in a pack of 48 and are avaible from Whsmith stores and their website at £9.99. A great little bargin and really good quality too. Building colour up with these is easy as is blending them together. I’ve had these since I was a highschooler and a set that I do go back to all the time. They give rich, bold colours when needed and are durable.

The Sudee Stile Pencils

Hmmm. The newest pencils I own and probally the only pencils I have some jip with. (Jip means issues just incase folk where confused!) I got the 120 set from amazon. But they no longer sell that set and now do either a 150 set at £46.99 or a 72 piece set at £19.99. Now that I have price out the way lets talk about them more in depth. Some of these colours are stunning. The blue green is gorgeous as is some of the reds, blues, and other shades. My main complaint about these pencils is that they don’t seem to have mixed all the colour in some of the pencils completely. I find it happens more in the lighter shades and I’ll get a huge line of a darker shade bleeding through. Which is annoying. Very annoying. But they do blend well together and work well with my other pencils. Plus the set has some colours that I don’t actually have in my others so that is a plus side.

The Staedtler Ergo Soft Pencils

I love these pencils. I’m gutted that I don’t have a bigger set of these beauties. I currently own the 24 set which I got from Whsmith at £15. (I think, I got these a few years ago and try not to use them for simple pieces.) If you know of a larger set please let me know!!! These are exactly what they say they are…..soft. I love using these for softer tones or when I need a gentler touch of colour. They are in a triangle shape which I find to be comfortable to handle but awkward to sharpen. Durable and the best quality of pencil that I own. They really are amazing.

I hope you enjoyed this post beauts.

Until next time my lovelies.

Sketchbook Tour.

Hello everyone. This little post is gonna be a tour of some of my most recent drawings and doodles. Hope you enjoy.

Red mushrooms.
These little mushrooms have been done with a pencil outline and filled in with my Touch marker pens. A little autumn inspo for inktober. (Which I’m failing at, but hay I’m working again!!) These little mushrooms are just too cute and I needed the push to get me back in my sketchbook.

The moon.
This little moon piece turned out really well. All drawn in black pen (which I rarely do!!) And I really enjoyed the process. It was fun and something that I need to do more of. One of my favourite pieces.

Piggies.

These where a prompt for my personal challenge. Pigs. Very awkward to draw but the one at the bottom is the best. Lol. These are drawn in one of my smaller sketchbooks that sometimes comes out with me. Drawing in pen isn’t easy but again something that I aim to be more confident in.

Yellow mushrooms.

Again with the mushrooms. Glad I found some inspiration though. I used a reference for these and the red ones from google. Used a pencil outline and tried the Touch markers again. You can see the bleeding from the ink. But despite that I do love this one. Its not something I usually draw, but simple and adorable. Yip, just called a mushroom adorable.

Eggs. Dragon? Not sure.
Done these in my good old friend, coloured pencil. The blue one was more of a challenge for the shading and range of tones. But did a good job over all. These two are more than likely going to be re-drawned at a later stage.

What do you guys think? Are you involved with inktober?

Until next time my lovelies.

A cute Pastel Elixir Haul

Good morning everyone! Today is a very exciting day……I just got my order from Pastel Elixir and I am beyond pleased and excited. Let’s be real, I’m actually sitting trying hard not to squeal. And this is why:

Pastel Elixir Goodies

I did also get a cute mug but got that the other day. Ellis did not it to damage any of the prints. The mind behind Pastel Elixir is a lovely young woman called Ellis Woolley. And she is lovely and answers any questions to the best of her ability. She also has youtube’s. Even better to put a face to the name!!

The create print and Pastel Elixir buisiness card.

How cute are these. Before I continue Ellis does have a sale going on, check it out for some cute stuff. I love the ‘Create’ print. As an creative person this is something I just can’t resist, plus the doodles are adorable. The simple design for her buisness card is flawless. Simple yet effective.

My Squirrel Mug by Pastel Elixir.
You may have already seen this on my insta if you follow me there. This mug is just perfect for the new season and I love the forage detail too. While it is smaller than my other mugs, its great for getting used to soya milk.

Unicorn print, cupcake post card and the monster card

These are great. The moster card was a must. Not sure who will get it but may just keep it cause it’s adorable. The unicorn ‘Believe In Yourself’ print is a great buy. It’s a great little reminder to stay confident and that I got this. 😍

Pastel Elixir buisiness info
This is the info for Pastel Elixir if your interested. Ellis is a lovely person and we both share a keen love for supporting small buisinesses. From her beautiful stickers, badges to the mugs and prints. This is one shop I defo plan on visiting again.

Until next time.

Art Supplies I plan on Repurchasing or Getting!

Hello everyone. How are you all on this mixed afternoon? I was doing some painting yesterday and noticed that I really need to make some repurchases soon. So the painting session inspired this little post and made me notice what I need to get.

My paint brushes!

I would love to get some new paint brushes, more smaller ones for little details and a few medium sized ones. I find the larger ones harder to work with and they annoy the hell outta me for some reason. While the smaller and medium sized brushes work with me better. I have a little more control over them. Any recommendations are highly accepted right now.

Not gonna last long are they??

My system 3 paints from Daler Rowney need replacing to. Had too bin the aquamarine blue last night as it was empty!! My favourite blue! But these will defo be on the list for a repurchase. Easy (ish I’m still learning and completely out my comfort zone) to use and mix really well together. I’ve also made myself a little promise to be more brave with the mediums that I’m using as I’m normally a pencil user.

Copic Ciao Markers are something I would love to get my hands on. Only problem is that the small packs don’t have any colours I want at this moment but the larger 72 packs have all the colours I would use. But the price is something that I can not afford at the moment. (Time to save those pennies me thinks!!)

Oh more pencils too but those are always in demand in my art supply. 😅

What recommendations have you all got for me?

Until next time my lovelies.

A Rose and Some Gemstones (Drawing)

Hello my lovelies, how are you all doing? It’s been a nice, slow week for me and I’ve loved it. Got lots done too. Even been super productive with loads of crazy design ideas. And I wanted to share with you all some of the things I’ve been working on.

Blue and purple simplified gemstone
I’ve always liked gemstones but can never draw them well so I thought I could maybe simplify them down and still make them look nice. These purple and blue one is a fav of mine, (done in pencil) which I plan doing a canvas version of. Not sure which medium I’ll use though. But I do love it and the black pen outlines helps it too pop.

Red and pink simplified gemstone in pencil
Yellow simplified gemstone piece
I’ve enjoyed messing around with scale and shape each time I do one of these simplified gemstone pieces. This yellow one is my second largest piece that I’ve done. It was difficult trying to get several yellows that didn’t match in shade each time.

Green and Brown simplified gemstone piece in pencil

While drawing this one it gave me an idea for something else that I wanted to draw for ages. I really like how the colours work so well together and may go for a more ‘earthy’ colour palette on my next gemstone piece.

I’ll be very honest now, I’m not the best artist in the world and there are some things that I just struggle too draw. (Damn high school teachers and saying things have to be perfect!!!!)

A simple multi colour rose in pencil
This simple multi colour rose was alot of fun. It was a challenge to make it look like a rose just without the softness of one. The idea for this came from my green and brown gemstone piece that I had done. I have loads of plans for this design and its future. With different colour palettes, mediums and uses.

What have you been creating or drawing lately??

Until next time lovelies.

Life with NO Internet

Well it happened. It finally happened. Knew it was coming but gutted that it’s so soon. What you may ask? My data ran out and I have no internet in the flat yet. So I’m currently sat in the local library mooching off their free wifi.

The last few days has kinda made me realise just how much I depend on the internet. Finding local places, youtube, twitter, instagram etc. Never really noticed how big a part they played in my life until they where actually gone. How often I reach for my phone to check twitter for the latest gossip or info on whats happening in the world. Or scrolling through instagram and wishing I was on a white beach somewhere.

Can’t complain to much though. My flat is spotless, and sorted. Clothes orginised as much as possible. Boxes have become a makeshift wardrobe. 😄 I’ve read some books I forgot I had and now half way through a sketchbook!!! Even got a night time routine going on for relaxing. It just goes to show how much of a distraction the internet is. But I do miss it for music playing in the background or finding something out.

I’m now a regular at the local library, staff have been lovely and really helpful too. Got even more books out and plan on reading them later on.

But I gotta go, library is joined to the school and my peace has been shattered by excited children. Heart warming to see really.

Anyway until next time.

25 Things About Me (Get too Know Me)

Hello my lovelies. How are you all this bitter, sunny day? Hope your week has been a positive one. Mine has been a strange mixture. Stay tuned for updates!!

Recently I’ve been looking through some old posts and it dawned on me that I haven’t done a ‘Get too Know Me’ post. I love readings these. You always get to find out something funny or interesting about the author. So without further delay. Here are 25 things about me you may not know:

1. I’m an artist. In both textiles and the drawing sense. I’ve been in love with drawing for many years but lost my love for it after some rude, negative comments from teachers in high school. However the last year I’ve rekindled my love for it and can’t wait to get stuck in more.

2. Born English but bred Scottish. Its a combo that I’m proud of!! (I love Britain and our amazing history.)
3. Some of you may know that I’m a mum too 2 gorgeous chinchilla’s. Or my furbabies as I call them. Damos and Maximillion are close to 1 years old! I’m beyond excited for them!!

4. If your a new follower then you might not know I was born a brunette. Now though I’m a bluenette!! Still loving the colour. 💙

5. Not surprising to some but I’m a novice when it comes to makeup and hair. I may be a lipstick addict but I have no idea how to contour or even plait my hair. Never mind put it in a bun!!!

6. Im happier in the counrty or by the ocean. The roaring waves and the vastness of the open woodlands. 😍

7. Been told many a time that I can talk for Scotland. Got the gift of the gab me and I never shut up. Ross has even said I talk in my sleep!!! Something about birds…….I have no idea either.

8. I have 7 tattoo’s at this moment in time. My 6 star signs for the family and the heart on my right foreman. I do want more in the future, but currently looking for a great tattoo artist who will work on designs with me.

9. I suffer from bouts of insomnia. Hence the dark circles under my eyes. These bags are designer folks!! But joking aside being an insomnac is annoying and exhausting. But on the plus side I am getting it under control.

10. Embroidery. I’ve recently fell in love with this beautiful techinquie and I’m slowly starting to learn more about it.

11. Not a proud one to admit but I’m currently unemployed. However I do have a few interviews coming up so watch this space!!!

12. I’m 1 of 4 children. 3 gals and 1 boy. Being the second oldest is tough, mainly cause you play peace keeper and get a lot blamed on you for some reason. Not sure why though?!?!?!

13. If you ever meet me in person you may be confused by my accent. I can pick accent’s up very quickly or if I’m round people for long periods of time. Basically my accent is a crazy mixture of a few places. (But please don’t call me a fifer! Just no.)

14. I actually stayed a good 10 ish years of my childhood in the Orkney Islands. (Part of my crazy accent!!) The Orkney’s are the Island’s just at the top of Scotland before Shetland. If you ever go I highly recommend the peat hills at sunset. (They look like they are on fire!!)

15. Gamer gal right here. I love games like Monster Hunter, Pokemon, Stardew Valley, Yugioh, MTG, Jak & Daxter, Harvest Moon, Rune Factory and the list could go on!!

16. I used to do tons of whelking!! Whelks are the salt water version of snails. These little snails can be found in rock pools all over the coast. Just be careful you dont get a hermit crab. They pinch rather hard. The snails are yummy in a white cheese sauce with garlic butter!! If you ever need a hand whelking gimmie a shout!

17. I’m a tea jenny. Through and through a tea jenny. I can’t start the day without a cuppa and I’ll have like 6-12 a day. It’s a problem I know.

18. Unpopular opinion. I love dark chocolate. I actually prefer it too white or milk chocolate.
19. I despise cream. Whipped cream, pouring cream etc. It’s just not nice. Just no. (Shudders at the thought of cream!!)

20. I’m not a techie person. At all. Anything that goes wrong with my phone or computer I shout on Rossco. But I am learning. Very slowly……..at a snails pace slow.

21. I can not cook to save myself. Well I can just not all that well. Rossco cooks mass majority of the meals and sometimes me. (I’ll be cooking the night!! Wish me luck!)

22. I actually have aniexty. Normally I’m a very touchie, huggy kinda person however I hate it when someone touches me without my say so. I freak and feel like my space has been invaded. Just don’t. I also rip myself apart alot too. Mentally and emotionally. However I do know that it doesnt define who I am as a person.

23. Fantasy, mythology and ancient history are just some of the things I love. I love to dig into theories or learn something new in a subject that I’m interested in. 😄

24. I have so many interests that I can confuse myself easily with them. This goes for ideas too. My mind can at times be a choatic mess of ideas, theories, plots, information or anything else. It can be scary really but so libarating at the same time.

25. I ‘ve been building my confidence over the last 4 years to a point where I will not take anyone’s negativity or crap. I have a brutal attitude to some situations now where I do come off cold and harsh. I was severly bullied in both primary and secondary. And by other people closer too me. It got to a point where the black hole almost destroyed me. But I faught back. And now I’m at a stage where negative comment’s or attitudes will not have an effect on me. That is a good thing.

I hope you all enjoyed some of this new infomartion. Don’t be afraid to leave something about yourself in the comments!! I love getting to know my readers that bit better!

Until next time folks.

February’s Sketchbook

Another installment of my sketchbook’s from the last month. (This will be a monthly post!!) I’ve noticed I draw alot of eyes, lips and hearts for some strange reason. Why I’m not exactly sure. The above piece was a shading and learning curve. In a simple pencil. By the way, if anyone has any artistic advice please don’t be afraid to share in the comments! Or even even some lovely active artistic blogs would be fantastic.

This was drawn a while back but I actually love it. It was my first colour test of an eye. However I had altered the shape alot. Really chuffed with the colour and how the skin tone worked oit rather nicely. I had done loads of manga drawing so that will most likely be an influence.

Another older piece that makes me happy every time I see it. Loved playing the the shape and colours. First time I actually used a white pencil in my work that I wantes to make noticeable!!!

This was a 15 minute facial sketch………boy do I have a long way to go!! Still need to work on placement, size and the proportions but I do feel like I’ve made great progress!!

This is an on going banner piece. I see loads of stunning banners everywhere. So I thought I would give it a try myself, turns out to be a tad stressful. I still don’t think its lined up right but great practice. I do like the flower detail but plan on adding text and more petal details.

Yet another lip study. This one just a little larger in orange. So far I like the detail and the shading on the upper lip. (I HATE DRAWING TEETH!!!) I may just keep it as an unfinished piece. Not to sure yet.

Yet another eye study but this one is a tad more realistic. I changed the shape slighty and can again see great development. However the eyebrow……..I have no idea what happened.

I was basically playing about with lines and this happened. A skirt and leg placement. Gonna need to work on that knee though. Everything else looks good but it looks odd.

These 2 pics. (One above and below.) These where just pieces I was doing to use up leftover acrylic paint. First time I used this techinque………I love it!! They look like dandelion’s! Feel like I’m defo gonna have to explore this one more. But I do feel sorry for my poor brush. (It had a good wash after and a well deserved rest.)

It’s green!! I finished my first large arcylic painting. A simplified gemstone piece. I used 2 different shades of green and added white to lighten it up. I don’t think I have an even coverage but it turned out so much better than what I expected. The black outline is black biro pen. Love the effect and combo.

Until next time my lovelies.
